PeerMesh uses maps, markers, areas, routes, and trails to help groups understand the real world together.

The map is the shared workspace. Markers show important points. Areas show important regions. Routes show where the group plans to go. Trails show where people actually went.

An Area is a shape on the map. Use an Area when the group needs to understand a zone or region.

The group can see the affected region instead of guessing from a single message.

Use an Area for a region or zone.

Routes answer: Where do we plan to go?

A Route represents planned movement. Routes are created before or during an activity to show the intended path.

Good examples

  • Planned hiking route

A Trail represents recorded movement. Trails are created from actual movement history.

A group planned to follow Route A. But because of a blocked path, they moved around the obstacle.

The Trail shows the actual path taken.

Route and Trail are related, but they are not the same. A Route shows intention. A Trail shows reality.
